SAG 2010 - Kate Hudson in Emilio Pucci w/Sassitude

1. Kate Hudson in Emilio Pucci

I have clearly been feeling Kate Hudson lately - especially Kate Hudson in white. But I mean how ridiculously stunning is this dress and how ridiculously stunning does she look in it? Answer: a lot! White has been her best friend this awards season!

I don’t even know if fit is even appropriate to mention here because this dress is basically like a layer of skin on her. I love how the front isn’t revealing because the back is what gives this dress some serious Sassitude. Count me in as one of those people who agree with the fact that if you are going to show a lot of skin in one area you should dial it back everywhere else. I love the silver beading on her hip and the back jewelry instead of a traditional necklace. She is just simply stunning in this!

Wishing everyone a weekend filled with Sassitude!

SAG 2010 - Lea Michele in Malandrino w/Sassitude

2. Lea Michele in Malandrino

The color of this dress really stood out and popped for me. This dress balances fun and flirty with just the right amount of Sassitude. The plunging neckline manages to not look vulgar and the banded waistline offsets the girlyness of the ruffles. I’m putting her in the looking fresh and pretty category as well!

SAG 2010 - Toni Collette in Rafael Cennamo w/Sassitude

3. Toni Collette in Rafael Cennamo

It seems as though this dress has flown under the radar. It clearly caught my attention though. Overall this dress has a very floaty vibe going on. But I think the top and the bottom give this dress some Sassitude. I love the way the gold bust is outlined with the turquoise beading. The three ruffled tiers at the bottom don’t weigh the dress down but rather give it just the right amount of a Bohemian feel. She looks so fresh and pretty!

SAG 2010 - Diane Kruger in Jason Wu w/Sassitude

4. Diane Kruger in Jason Wu

I’m going to mention fit a lot when I talk about clothing. It will seem very repetitive over time. The way I see it is that if a dress doesn’t fit the way it is supposed to then it is rarely going to have Sassitude.

With that said I’m going to begin with the fact that this Jason Wu dress fits Diane’s body beautifully. I am a fan of mustard colored dresses and I think this shade of mustard was perfect. It had a deep rich quality to it. It made me want to pause my DVR and make a sandwich – with mustard of course. I like the way the right sleeve sort of fans out. I think it keeps the dress soft overall but the bare left shoulder gives the dress some Sassitude. She looked amazing!

SAG Awards 2010 - Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen w/Sassitude

The women were seriously bringing it for the SAG Awards. I found it much more difficult to narrow it down to five dresses this time than I did for the Globes. But after some deliberation here goes…

5. Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen.

First off, she looks amazing in this dress! Overall it is simple but I thought the embellishment and keyhole neckline gave this dress some Sassitude! I just love the chicness of this dress overall. This dress proves that sometimes simplicity is the way to go. Plus, she seemed really comfortable in it which is the most important thing. Nothing works if you’re not owning it!

Golden Globes 2010 - Kate Hudson in Marchesa w/Sassitude

1. Kate Hudson in Marchesa

This dress seems to be polarizing. And I’m like – whaaaattttt?!!!! This dress simply took my breath away. It is stunning! White can oftentimes look demure but not in this case. This dress just oozes Sassitude for me! It’s like she is wearing architecture. I love the way it is structured from the waist up but still manages to look soft and fun at the neckline. A dress like this could have looked ridiculous on the red carpet but I think it accomplished what it was going for without going too far. Kate worked the crap out of this – so stunning!

Next week – the SAG Awards! Wishing everyone a weekend filled with Sassitude!

Golden Globes 2010 - Anna Paquin in Stella McCartney w/Sassitude

2. Anna Paquin in Stella McCartney

I was clearly feeling the gold last Sunday. And boy is this dress gold. On the red carpet it almost looked like it was liquid gold poured onto her body. Or that she was dipped into a pot of fondue like a chocolate covered strawberry – take your pick. I also love the neckline, the sleeves and the fit overall gives this dress some serious Sassitude. She looked fantastic!

Golden Globes 2010 - Toni Collette in Elie Saab w/Sassitude

3. Toni Collette in Elie Saab

I just love this dress. I love that the gold beading isn’t too gaudy – just sparkly enough for some Sassitude. I think that the striped beading from the hips up give the dress a lot of structure. I also love the way the striped beading accentuates her waist and hips. She looks amazing!

Golden Globes 2010 - Emily Blunt in Dolce & Gabanna w/Sassitude

4. Emily Blunt in Dolce & Gabanna

I love the color pink so there is no surprise that I am loving the blush pink color of this dress. The frayed ruffles that go diagonally down the bodice and then become straight on the bottom gives this sweet dress some Sassitude. I also think the fit is amazing and she looks stunning in it.

Golden Globes 2010 - Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta w/Sassitude

Football and awards seasons are my favorite seasons out of the year. Yesterday was actually one of my favorite days of television viewing out of the entire year – the NFL playoffs and the Golden Globes all in the same day! The Golden Globes are actually my favorite award show. I love the fact that they honor both tv and film and while it is a glamorous award show it also has a fun laidback feel to it.

Of course, my favorite part of any award show are the fashions. I thought it would be fun over the course of the week to reveal the five dresses I felt had the most Sassitude.

5. Lea Michele in Oscar de La Renta.

A lot of people might think this dress is a bit too princessy but I love it. I actually think for someone who is petite it doesn’t overwhelm her. I also love how the sheerness of the top kind of gives something that is otherwise on the prim and proper side a bit of Sassitude. Lookin gorgeous Lea!

Scholar Ladies w/Sassitude

I thought it would be nice to end the week with this video. The faculty and students at the Hope Christian School in Milwaukee did their own take on Beyonce’s Single Ladies video - Scholar Ladies. I saw this on CNN and thought it was both adorable and inspiring. What a fun way to motivate kids to want to learn! These kids are so adorable and well on their way to living lives filled with Sassitude!

Wishing everyone a weekend filled with Sassitude!

Socks w/Sassitude

I never thought I’d do a post about socks having Sassitude but these socks have some serious Sassitude. They are by Miu Miu and J-Lo is rocking them on the cover of Latina Magazine. I am seriously in love with them. I don’t know how much they cost but probably a lot more than a pair of Hanes – I’m just guessing.

How would you wear them? I’m thinking a plain black dress and those socks with some black Mary Jane’s. I smell a DIY project in my future – or a knockoff.

A New Journey w/Sassitude

Last week a friend of mine temporarily moved to Los Angeles. I was very sad to see her go but at the same time was very proud of her. It takes a lot of Sassitude to leave an environment that is comfortable to you. I should know because I did the very same thing. My experience didn’t pan out the way I had hoped but I will never have that regret of not trying something new. I believe that one foolproof way of living a life lacking in Sassitude is having regrets. With that said, I wish my friend a new journey filled with tons of Sassitude!

BTW – that picture is of a round of tequila shots that were on the house. I have no idea why they were given to us because the owners of the restaurant had no idea we were celebrating something special – nevertheless we weren’t complaining.

American Idol w/Sassitude

I am seriously so giddy with excitement for tonight that I can barely contain myself. But I am a grown woman so I must try to do just that. But seriously I am sooooooo excited for the new season of American Idol! This show screams Sassitude from like the top of Mt. Everest! I mean, it takes a lot of Sassitude and Swagger to put your self out there on a national stage only to be judged in front of millions of people. Even though the show starts of tonight with the bad auditions (which thoroughly and equally entertain me) I’ve got to also give it up to those delusional folks – cause it must take some level of Sassitude and Swagger for them to put themselves out there too.

Of course I can’t ignore the sad news that was announced yesterday – Simon leaving after this season : ( The show won’t be the same next season. At least we can still enjoy the pleasure of his company at the judges table till May. On the good news front I am excited about Ellen. I think she will really add something special to the group. I was sad to see Paula go but I think Ellen is a great addition being that she will probably give the contestants some much needed encouragement like Paula did. In any case it should be interesting to see how this season plays out!

Burn The Floor w/Sassitude

People that know me know I love Ballroom dancing. We can thank Dancing With The Stars for this. Needless to say Ballroom dancing is filled with tons of Sassitude. I mean to begin with you’ve got the sparkly costumes, see through shirts, popping hips, mugging, pointing and winking, all done under a mirror ball. I don’t think I need to elaborate any more!

This is why on Friday along with a friend of mine, I saw the Broadway show Burn The Floor. Surprise, surprise – I loved it! The show and the cast were all amazing! Known cast members included Kym Johnson, Mary (Hot Tamale Train) Murphy and Derek Hough. This was a huge treat for me – especially Derek Hough! Boy knows how to work it (I can't elaborate any more being that this is a family blog and all.)! Mary Murphy did a couple of waltzes which were pretty. Derek and Kym did a Rumba type dance together which was pretty hot. A couple of my fave dances were done to the songs Magalenha and Proud Mary. And the one big giveaway that the audience loved the show was that they had to open the curtain three times during the encore which was to Turn The Beat Around!

Plus if you watched So You Think You Can Dance this past season the contestant Karen was also in the show. It’s always nice to see competition reality show contestants getting the opportunity to live out their dreams. This just goes to show that it’s not always about winning but about the journey filled with Sassitude!

tiny wine-ey w/Sassitude

I love getting my nails done. I put nails in the category of natural accessories. I just think painted nails add instant Sassitude. It’s a great way of expressing oneself. Plus I actually think you can tell a lot about a person based on their nail polish choices – are they daring or safe for example. In the winter I normally go for darker colors but for New Years this year I went with a bright red that I would normally wear in the summer. But I figured that this New Years was a special one and I wanted my nails to pop. This was the first time I used this color and loved it – tiny wine-ey by Essie. Thought I’d share! Wishing everyone a weekend filled with Sassitude!

Tweed w/Sassitude

I love classics and sometimes love them even more when they are updated. Case in point – this Marc Jacobs tweed bag. It is featured in InStyle.com. You can never go wrong with tweed and I have always been a fan. But sometimes it can look a bit mundane. Not in this case! I love the way the fluorescent stones give it some Sassitude! It is out of my price range - $995! But, I can still admire from afar : ) Plus it can also double as a clutch! So I guess in a way you are getting two bags for the price of one. Eh – who am I kidding, I will still be admiring from afar.

Empire State of Mind w/Sassitude

Empire State of Mind

I love the idea of personal theme songs. And the one I have chosen as my 2010 theme song could not have been released at a better time – Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z featuring Alicia Keys. It’s like this song was written for me just at the right moment (especially the chorus). I say this because while I am back working in New York, I was recently away for more than two years. What I realized while I was away was that New York really gives me Sassitude. I am so grateful to be back and honestly feel rejuvenated and ready to tackle everything my heart desires!

Here are the lyrics to the chorus:

In New York, concrete jungle where dreams are made of
There’s nothing you can’t do, now you’re in New York
These streets will make you feel brand new
Big lights will inspire you, let’s hear it for New York, New York, New York

Tavern on the Green w/Sassitude

A friend of mine alerted me to the fact that Tavern on the Green closed. Above is a picture of their entrance from their website. For those of you unfamiliar, it has been an institution in NYC for like a bajillion years. Another friend of mine and I have always said that we need to get a drink there and we never did. Now we can’t because it is closed. What I’m getting at here is a lesson learned – don’t put off anything even if it is just getting a drink somewhere that you want to. Missing out on things definitely does not lead to a life filled with Sassitude!

Steelers w/Sassitude errr I mean Swagger

I am a football fan and more importantly a Steelers fan. We officially got eliminated from the playoffs yesterday. And while I am a bit disappointed I am simultaneously proud of the team. We lost five straight games in a row yet came back strong to almost make it into the playoffs. I think this demonstrates a great deal of Sassitude (or in this case I’m sure the guys would prefer the term Swagger – hehe) – not giving up and fighting till the end.

BTW – isn’t that pink Terrible Towel adorable? I am coveting it for next season! Plus it helps a good cause : )

2010 Planner w/Sassitude

I’m a planner for the most part. I love daily lists and monthly planners. It’s been my experience that you accomplish more daily with lists and you have a balanced social life when you plan ahead to do things which leads to a life filled with oodles of Sassitude.

One of the things I get excited about every year is picking out a new planner. I find this to be a very important decision because you will be stuck with this thing for an entire year. Plus like many things, I consider planners to not only be functional but an accessory. And if a planner is an accessory then it needs to be cute – see where I’m going with this?

So this year I am using a Lilly Pulitzer planner which I think is so cute. The outside and inside of this thing just screams Sassitude. I can’t wait to see how it fills up as the year progresses!

Happy New Year!!! w/Sassitude

Happy New Year everyone!!!

I have been thinking about starting my own blog for a while now and figured there’s no better time than the beginning of a new decade. If you are reading this, I welcome you to Sassitude: A Girl’s Guide to Swagger. And while this blog will be a work in progress,I hope that through it we can all live life with a little Sassitude.
